Weddings

We are delighted that you are thinking of getting married in our church.

The first thing to do is check if at least one of you have a qualifying connection with St Mark’s Church, according to the rules laid down by the Church of England. Everyone in England lives in a Church of England parish and has a right to be married in their Parish Church.

It is now much easier for people to get married in a church, which is not in the parish where they live, providing they have a qualifying connection.

A person has a qualifying connection with St Mark’s if:

  • Either of you:
    • has at any time lived in the parish of St Mark’s for a period of at least 6 months.
    • was baptised in St Mark’s.
    • was prepared for confirmation by St Mark’s.
    • has at any time regularly gone to normal church services at St Mark’s for a period of at least 6 months.
  • That one of your parents, at any time after you were born:
    • has lived in the parish of St Mark’s for a period of at least 6 months.
    • has regularly gone to normal church services at St Mark’s for a period of at least 6 months.
  • That one of your parents or grandparents:
    • was married in the parish.

We would be very happy to hear from you to help plan this special day in your lives. If you would like to arrange a wedding at St Mark’s please use the contact form.
